WHEN: Saturday 12 October 2024 11:00am – 2:30pm
WHERE: UNISON Brighton Office, 179 Preston Road, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 6AG
Lunch and refreshments will be provided and their families. We advocate for fair wages, benefits, and working conditions for all of our members.
After proceedings, we will be joined by Penny Smith, National LGBT+ Committee Member, who will deliver a session on asexuality. The session will explore the asexuality umbrella and the many identities that fall under it, dispel many of the myths around asexuality, discuss asexual people's experience in the workplace, and look at practical ways to be a good ace ally.
This year the committee have also been reviewing their constitution to enable greater participation.
Everything you need to know, including details of registering to attend, nominate members for election, and submit motions for debate, can be found below.
What a year it has been celebrating UNISON’s Year of LGBT+ workers. Thank you to our regional LGBT+ Group, branches and members who have increased our activity and visibility in workplaces and the community. From attending local Prides, holding LGBT+ awareness stalls, and negotiating Trans Equality policies, to delivering LGBT+ training sessions and webinars to members, we should all feel very proud that we have engaged LGBT+ workers, grown the union’s LGBT+ membership and embedded LGBT+ rights in our organising, campaigning, and bargaining strategies.
I would like to say a big thank you to the committee: Kathy-Ann Mark Evans, Adam Hillier, Billie Reynolds, Lucy Power, Pól O Ceallaigh, and Andy Newman. They've put in so much dedication and hard work throughout 2024. A big thank you is also due for the administration support provided by our Team Support Workers: Chantelle Brown, Kai Duffy, and Caroline Butler.
So many of you have given up time and joined us at an event or group meeting, drafted newsletters and all the positive work that you have done in your branches. We are incredibly grateful for your support and participation and hope that you will continue to be involved with the group over the coming year.
Finally, it is very important that we fill all seats within the LGBT+ Group so that we can continue to maximise our influence across the region and campaign on behalf of our LGBT+ colleagues to the best possible effect. If you’re considering standing for a role and would like to know more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions about the roles, or any other issue I can help with.
We look forward to seeing you at the AGM and celebrating the Year of LGBT+ workers!
Kind regards and best wishes,
Clare Boorman

UNISON recognises that in order for our members to fully participate, it may be necessary to make some adjustments so that we can ensure, so far as is reasonably practical, that everyone has the same opportunity to take part across our structures.
If you require any adjustments to be made to facilitate your participation in this meeting, please complete the Access Passport and return to committee administrator Caroline Butler as soon as possible.
If you have previously completed an access passport and require adjustments for this meeting, please complete a new version of the passport and return it to me as soon as possible because of the differing requirements from a physical meeting compared to one being held online.
